How one woman’s request led to start of a Community Centre

‘Ask and it shall be given unto you’, Jesus said.

The establishment of the DEEP woman project is a clear indication of how God is faithful to his word. The sewing project that is changing the lives of women in Kakuma refugee camp would never have been if Silvia had not expressed her deep need to transform her.  She requested for a sewing machine, but that led to the establishment of a training centre with 10 machines training women in tailoring, giving them the livelihood skills they need to make a living and support their families.

Revival of Suppressed dreams of Mothers

Life in the remote and desolate arid lands of northern Kenya is generally tough for everybody, but it is worse for a woman and especially a mother.

The women in the camps are literally reduced to sitting at home, doing nothing of value for themselves and their families. This idle existence and a wasting away of their days, only helps foment thoughts of bitterness, hopelessness and worthlessness.  Some are depressed having lost all hope and even contemplated suicide and death.

In the midst of all the adversities, women dream for a better life even though it appears to be just but a dream. Those who are over 35 years of age are adversely disadvantaged; organizations have no opportunities for them, they turn them away leaving them feeling worthless and useless.

Fortunately, some of the women who fear God have been praying, asking God for help. And because of their prayers, the CTC DEEP Woman tailoring project was started in Kakuma. Twenty (20) women have graduated from the centre with skills giving them a chance to support their families, regain their self-worth and dignity back because God answers prayers.
